Measurement 5

As a continuation of the previous measurement modules, Measurement 5, officially named as 'Building Services and Civil Engineering Quantities', focuses on the Services of the building and civil engineering works. The Services of a building uses SMM2, like the previous modules, but in Civil engineering works measurement however, students were introduced to Malaysia's MyCESMM book, a guide for measurement of civil engineering works

This module is divided into two, Civil engineering works & Building services, both taught by different lecturers: Mr. Simon Chee Wai Meng & Ms. Laura Law respectively. In regards to Civil engineering measurement, it consists of:

  • Retaining Earth Wall

  • Concrete works (Prestress concrete)

  • Railway tracks

  • Sedimentary Basins

  • Cut & Fill

As for Building Services, it consists of the following:-

  • Electrical connections

  • Cold Water Plumbing

  • Sanitary Plumbing

  • Fire Protection

  • Air Conditioning & Ventilation

The module's assessment consists of a mid-term test, a short group assignment and a final exam. With quantities mostly with unit meter & numbers, an assessment load that is considerably lesser, and after going going through a difficult Measurement 4 module focusing on all External Works and other Building Works, this measurement module considerably is more lighter in workload. Nonetheless, I try not to underestimate & focus on the module like I have always been.

Group Assignment

The group assignment for the measurement module this semester is rather small in load as compared to previous ones. his group assignment focuses on Civil Engineering works, as Building Services have already been covered in the mid-term test. The Group assignment is on Cut & Fill & requires a group of 6 to measure on the items, along with Sedimentary basin, which is a theory question done individually.
