The Value Management module is a new module introduced in semester 6. This module introduces students to a fairly new concept in the construction industry that aims to improve value without drawbacks in cost or quality through the removal of unnecessary costs and replacement of functional components that leads to improvements. The module gives a critical approach through introducing the classifications, implementations, terminologies, concepts, techniques, benefits and procedures of value management throughout the semester

Mr. Loo Seong King is the lecturer for this module & the module's assessment consists of a mid-term test, a group Report & Presentation project and a final exam.

I feel that this module is well organised in a way that allows better understanding to a fairly new concept to students or at least myself. I find studying for mid-terms and exams quite easy whereas the group project allows us to test the knowledge to our understanding by implementing different aspects aforementioned into it's documentation & preparation. I feel that the knowledge is of great value as well, with achieving maximum value allowing for efficient construction costs, a concept that I would fully support as a Quantity Surveyor.

Group Assignment

The group assignment for this module requires a group of 6-7 people to conduct a Value Management study as a team to a project to prepare a Case Study Report. The project is of the group's choice & upon completion of the case study report, the team is to present on their findings and conclusion within the next lecture class.

The Group assignment was conducted fairly well thanks to a specific format provided by the assignment brief prepared by Mr. Loo. As previously mentioned, the assignment structure is good coverage of what has been taught throughout the semester. On a side note, this group assignment allowed for a final report & presentation for the class throughout the whole course, and with me included in a group of friends with good chemistry, it has allowed me to complete it with a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction.
