Community Service Initiative
Community Service Initiative is an MPU subject for this semester. This module aims to help students connect with the sense of aid and lend a helping hand to the underprivileged. This module requires us to conduct an event with an orphanage & the assessment of the module consists of a journal report of the event along with a presentation. Ms. Tay Shir Men is the lecturer for this module, guiding us on what to do before the event, her experience with similar events have obviously been very helpful.
For us, this module is a bit unique compared to the other modules, it allowed us to get university work out of our minds & work towards affecting other people's lives. With 22 members of the group, each person has bonded with each other at a large scale.
Group Assignment
This assignment requires a group of 22 students to create the event previously mention, playing beneficial games for the realisation of their career & spending time giving smiles to children of the orphanage. The group leader of the group is Joshua Chua whereas the orphanage chosen is an Orphanage House named Rumah Juara. We had asked and successfully received sponsorship from Colgate and Green Cotton Sdn Bhd, sponsoring goods and t-shirts for the event.
Before the event, the group worked hard preparing the games & necessary props. During the event, we have 5 types of activities which are Coffee Talk session, Police Station, Super Market, Science Lab and Hospital games. We enjoyed conducting the event, with each member feeling fulfilled to give a significant part of the children's lives.
The following are the video presentations used reflecting and summarising the momentous event.
Reflection

This event has been a momentous experience for me. Working together as a group to perform an act of kindness for the children involved, I can presumably speak for the #REACHOUT team that we have earned a feeling of fulfillment for our work. Seeing the beaming smiles of the children only boosts my empathy and encourages me to do more for others. I hope that the children too have earned a great experience that motivates them for their education and ambitions.
This event is not the first time I have attended a similar occasion. Back in 2013, for the Moral Education module in Foundation, my group went to a Vietnamese Refugee School. Compared to this event however, the extent of the coordination, the organization, the management of time, the leadership displayed, the clear objectives, the togetherness & the overall work rate of this team overwhelms my previous experience wholly. This event is definitely more memorable than my previous experience.
With credit to the leadership of the group leader Joshua & other leader figures within the group; we all understood that the event went out almost perfectly because we all worked so hard preparing for the event to go smoothly, no room for errors were allowed. At the same time, stronger bonds and a stronger sense of togetherness were made within the team pre-event, during the event & post-event. I would definitely love to work with this team again.
