Management Science
This module, as its name suggests, is about management. Management of the company with interior & exterior problems, employees with their behaviour, company culture, and so on.
In this module, we have learned about managerial management, strategic management, decision making, importance of organization culture, structure and design, work motivation, leadership, team and working groups, communication skill, human resource management, time managament and information management.
This module is taught by MS. Tay Shir Men & has a mid-term test and a group assignment. Through this module, it aims to help students enchance their skills in management, communication skills while even if one doesn't take a managerial post, he/she can still know how a company works & tackle real life situations.
Learning Outcomes
1. Define the operation of different types of organisations in the construction industry.
2. Execute SWOT analysis for decision making.
3. Adopt competent communication skills.
4. Formulate their own management potential.
Group Project
In this assignment, we were to visualise a situation where 5 group members have founded a construction company. With thatin mind, we were told to do 3 tasks. The first tasks is to explain the information of the company, such as our vision, mission, organisational structure and job responsibilities. The second task is to come up with at least 2 interview activities we would give to people applying for a Project Manager post. The third and last task is to utilise information management to compete with competitors
Among the group, we decided to visualise ourselves as Precast Concrete Installers named Supreme Construction. This assignment aims to help us utilise our learning from the module in order to complete the given tasks, with each tasks needing different information from a topic while the need for us to imagine ourselves in the given situation helps us imagine how we use these management information in real life situations
